The International Council on Mining & Metals (ICMM) of London, UK, is circulating the latest issue of it biannual "Good Practice" newsletter. The publication examines the challenge of sustainable development and the different ways in which member companies are addressing it.
The July 2010 issue includes:
"Making a contribution to sustainable development," a special report on initiatives that member companies are developing to support sustainable development, including collaborative and creative approaches to recycling, public infrastructure, community relations and nature conservation.
"Making a positive difference," in which ICMM's president argues that adopting a partnership approach and sharing the costs, risks, responsibilities and benefits of a project are key to ensuring a positive contribution.
"Making a case for sustainable metals," where the need for proactive metals stewardship - looking at how mining companies can produce materials in a sustainable fashion and think about what happens to them beyond the refinery - is discussed.
