CALGARY – Investors are losing confidence in the mineral exploration permitting process in Canada, according to a study done by the
Fraser Institute. Those responding pointed out longer approval times and lack of transparency.
Half (50%) of all respondents from Ontario noted lack of transparency, followed by 48% of those in British Columbia and 40% in Quebec. In other countries only 17% of respondents thought a lack of transparency in the process was deterring investment.
“An increasingly opaque and confusing application process for companies to explore for mineral deposits deters investment and ultimately hinders Canada’s ability to realize its considerable resource potential,” said Kenneth Green, Fraser Institute resident scholar and co-author of the study.
