TORONTO: As part of the process to update the provincial
Mining Act, Ontario has launched a new online, self-service claim staking system. It will allow anyone with a prospector’s licence to register a claim 24/7.

The new electronic
Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS) replaces the province’s century-old traditional ground staking methods. It also marks the completion of the modernization of the
Mining Act.
In addition to simplifying the process, the new system will also improve how mining claims are registered, enhance the province’s competitiveness in the mining industry, and help drive more international investment toward a world-class mineral exploration and development sector, says the province.
To access the new system, please
register via Ontario’s One-key portal to create an MLAS account. A valid Ontario prospector’s licence is required.

I cut lines and put up posts in the area of CAMP LAKE in 2010 but didn’t file my claim because I have Parkinsons and was unable to do the work on a continuous basis so I decided to let it go. Then last year I looked and found that a company had staked the whole area from the MTO all the way to town,
no staking required. I am more than a little disappointed and will see if they actually do anything on the ground since there are literally hundreds of claims that I would have been responsible to do work on had I filed for the claims back in 2010.
