Sandvik has won an underground mining equipment order from Jimond Mining Management, a subsidiary of JCHX Mining Management, for the Kamoa-Kakula copper mine expansion. The contract is worth $26 million (SEK200 million).

Sandvik says the order includes Toro TH663i trucks, Toro LH621i loaders, and Sandvik DL432i longhole production drills. The vehicles will be delivered to the mine site during the first nine months of next year.

The mine is located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Ivanhoe put the 2023 guidance between 390,000 and 430,000 tonnes of copper in concentrate at cash costs of US$1.40 to US$1.50 per pound of payable copper.

The phase 3 expansion which is to be completed next year, bringing the mine’s average annual production up to 650,000 tonnes of copper at estimates cash costs of US$1.22/lb. The project includes the commissioning of a 500,000-t/y on-site, direct-to-blister copper smelter and refurbishment of turbine #5 at the Inga II hydroelectric facility.
