Osisko Metals (TSX-V:OM; OTCQX:OMZNF) has shared new details about its summer activities for the Gaspé copper project near Murdochville in Quebec's Gaspé peninsula.

The company’s president and CEO Robert Wares announced that the work to reopen the mine is advancing. “Our 2024 drilling program is progressing well, as is surface water characterization of the mine site and surrounding area, both of which will continue into the fall. Detailed sampling of the pit waters as well as experimental fishing downstream from the mine site are also planned to better understand the health of fish populations and the potential impacts of pit dewatering.”

So far, 11 exploration drill holes have been completed at Needle Mountain, totalling around 2,600 metres. Core samples are being analyzed for copper, silver, and molybdenum to evaluate additional mineral resources.

Currently, drilling is underway at Copper Mountain, with a 4,500-metre program to better understand the resource in the deposit’s core. Pit wall stabilization is in progress to ensure safety.

The team is also conducting a detailed survey of surface waters at the mine and nearby areas. In June, nearly 70 sampling stations were set up to evaluate water quality. This monitoring will continue through the summer and fall to provide a complete overview.

Additional water samples will be taken from the Copper Mountain pit, from the surface to a depth of 180 metres, and sediments at the bottom will be analyzed. This data will help plan dewatering processes and reduce impacts on the York River and its salmon population.

The preliminary economic assessment (PEA) is expected to be published in early 2025.
