FORT McMURRAY, Alta. SUNCOR ENERGY has pushed back the starting date for the maintenance shutdown of its original upgrader to May 19. Previously it was announced that the work would begin on April 28. The new date may be adjusted depending on the availability of local contractors and accommodations for their employees.
The maintenance work and the commissioning of a new fractionator should improve throughput and reliability of Suncor's facilities.
Output from the oil sands is projected to hit 500,000 to 550,000 bbl/day within the next 10 years. CMJ outlined the expansion in its October 2002 issue (www.canadianminingjournal.com/issues/past_issues.asp). Or see the Suncor web site at www.suncor.com.
