CALGARY - SNC-LAVALIN Inc. has been awarded a contract, valued at approximately $40 million, by CANADIAN NATURAL RESOURCES LTD. (CNR) to provide engineering, procurement and construction management services for the froth treatment plant at the Horizon oil sands project near Fort McMurray, Alta.
The Horizon project is 100% owned and operated by CNR, which estimates that its oil sands leases contain approximately six billion barrels of bitumen recoverable through open pit mining. The engineering phase is underway and construction is scheduled to begin in August 2005. The expected completion date for the construction phase is December 2007.
