ONTARIO - CVRD INCO believes the Creighton mine near Sudbury has potential mineralization at depth to extend the life of the century-old mine well into the future. To find it, the company has launched the Creighton Deep project.
Exploration and advanced exploration diamond drilling have shown significant high-grade nickel, copper and PGE mineralization between the 2,150- and 3,200-metre levels at the mine. A successful Creighton Deep exploration project could double proven and probable reserves to 32 million tonnes grading 1.9-2.2% Ni and 2.0-2.3% Cu.
In operation since 1901, Creighton has delivered a total of 173 million tonnes of ore with an average grade of 1.52% Ni and 1.22% Cu.
The former Inco website, www.Inco.com, is still active, and its news releases are updated regularly.
