MINING PEOPLE: Newmont, Granada Gold, Maritime, and Pan Global

[caption id="attachment_1003727015" align="alignleft" width="256"] Rob Atkinson[/caption] Newmont Mining Corp. of Denver, Colo., has chosen Rob Atkinson to succeed Tom Palmer as executive VP and COO effective June 1. Palmer, the current president and COO, will retain the title of president until he succeeds Gary Goldberg as president and CEO. Goldberg will retire by the end of the year. Dr. Eric Owens is the new president of Granada Gold Mine in Rouyn-Noranda. Recently he was president and CEO of Alexandria Minerals. Owens holds a PhD in geology from Western University. Frank J. Basa will retain his responsibilities as CEO. Vancouver-based Maritime Resources Corp. has made Garett Macdonald its president and CEO. Former president and CEO Douglas Fulcher and COO Andrew Pooler have left the company. The new chairman of the board at Pan Global Resources in Vancouver is Patrick Evans. He has served as CEO of Dominion Diamond Mines, Mountain Province Diamonds, Kennady Diamonds, Norsemont Mining, Weda Bay Minerals, Southern Platinum, Messina Platinum, and SouthernEra Resources. He is also a director of Mirasol Resources.
