MINING PEOPLE IN THE NEWS SouthernEra, Desert Sun

SOUTHERNERA RESOURCES of Toronto announced the retirement of Stan Westcott, manager of the Messina platinum mine in South Africa. He joined SouthernEra out of retirement in mid-2001 on a two-year contract to oversee the start-up of the mine.

Toronto's DESERT SUN MINING has invited William Clarke to join its advisory committee to provide strategic and technical guidance. He was Canada's ambassador to Brazil (1990-92) and served in many capacities in the foreign service. He is currently president of the Canadian Nuclear Association.
