MINING PEOPLE: Alderon, Callinex, Kirkland Lake Gold, and Rio Tinto

Alderon Iron Ore Corp. of Vancouver has named Ian R. Ashby, former president iron ore of BHP Billiton, and W. Adrian Loader, former president and CEO of Shell Canada, to its board of directors effective immediately.

Max Porterfield becomes president and CEO of Vancouver-based Callinex Mines on June 1. His expertise is in investor relations and as VP of institutional services at US Global Investors. He replaces Mike Muzylowski who has been serving as interim president and CEO of Callinex.

Kirkland Lake Gold, headquartered in the Ontario town of the same name, has hired Chris Stewart as VP operations. He was most recently president and CEO of Liberty Mines. He is a graduate of Queens University.

On June 1, 2014, Alfredo Barrios becomes the chief executive of Rio Tinto's aluminum business. He succeeds Jacynthe Cote who leaves to pursue other interests.
