CHILE - Finnish mineral processing specialist, Outotec, has signed a contract with Quadra FNX of Vancouver to supply mineral processing equipment to the new copper-molybdenum concentrator at the Sierra Gorda, close to Antofagasta.
Outotec gave the value of the contract as $36.35 million. Outotec will supply TankCell e300 floatation cells, concentrate and tailings thickeners as well as filters. It will also provide installation, commissioning and start-up services. Delivery is scheduled for 2012.
Quadra FNX (www.QuadraFNX.com) owns 55% of the Sierra Gorda project where proven and probable reserves are estimated to be 1.28 billion tonnes of sulphide ore. The feasibility study identifies a conventional open pit operation with an initial planned throughput of 110,000 t/d, expanding to a throughput of 190,000 t/d in Year 4 of operations with a current mine life of 20 years. Pre-stripping is to begin next year.
