Major Drilling Group International has formed a new partnership with downhole technology company DGI Geoscience and its affiliate, KORE GeoSystems, which specializes in AI-powered core logging technology.

This partnership places Major Drilling at the forefront of AI in the drilling industry. By combining Major Drilling's fleet, skilled teams, and TrailBlazer Rock5 technology with KORE's digital rock analysis platform, the company aims to provide enhanced data to customers. DGI's borehole data acquisition services further complement this offering.

“This alliance is a continuation of Major Drilling’s progression in drilling innovation, and also part of our growth strategy as we invest in the future of mining,” said president and CEO of Major Drilling Denis Larocque.

“As our traditional drilling services evolve, the full complement of DGI/KORE products and services alongside Major Drilling’s developing technologies will see our service offering transform and help our customers during this mining upcycle,” said new chief technology officer Marc Landry. “For example, KORE uses AI to automate processing of core logging, greatly reducing time and improving consistency, enabling our customers to get real-time, remote access to results across the globe.”

As part of the agreement, Major Drilling will acquire a 40% interest in DGI/KORE for $15 million. Canadian Shield Capital, a Toronto-based growth equity firm, will sell its interest in DGI/KORE.

President and CEO of KORE Vince Gerrie stated that their AI-powered digital core logging platform boosts productivity, consistency, and data insights. President and CEO of DGI Chris Drielsma, added that the partnership with Major Drilling offers the mining sector turnkey geological, geophysical, and geotechnical drillside solutions, maximizing drilling value through advanced geoscience solutions.
