WEST AUSTRALIA - Fifty-four miners were safely evacuated from BARRICK GOLD'S Kanowna Belle gold mine when a truck engine caught fire on Oct. 24, 2007. No injuries were reported. Mining operations were to resume with the following morning's shift.
Barrick's Kanowna Belle mine is located 570 km east of Perth. Production began from an open pit in 1993 and moved underground two years later. Longhole stoping and paste fill is practised.
