SWEDEN – Sandvik Mining has launched two new underground trucks, the TH550 and TH540, that are the cleanest in the market. They have low-emission EPA Tier 4i/EURO Stage IIIB engines in a compact and agile vehicle.

The new trucks are based on what the manufacturer calls the “old workhorses,” the T50 and T40. The optional Tier 4i engine uses less fuel and produces fewer emissions than the older models.

“If these engines were left running, for example, in the center of some large city, the exhaust fumes coming out of the engines would be cleaner than the air they took in from the city. These trucks can thus provide a healthier environment for all personnel working underground,” says Tomi Pikala, marketing support manager at Sandvik Mining.

The TH550 and TH540 have new features including a remodelled ergonomic cabin, automatic transmission, air conditioning, and ground-level maintenance access. For maximum uptime they also have a large fuel tank, a new cooling system, safer electrical wiring, and durable tires.
