JAPAN –
Southern Arc Minerals of Vancouver is one of the very few Canadian juniors to tackle mineral exploration in Japan. The company recently received word that all 80 of its prospecting licence applications have been accepted for further review.
Southern Arc’s new subsidiary
Southern Arc Minerals Japan (SAMJ) plans to begin low impact forms of exploration such as mapping, surface sampling and geophysics first. This will enable SAMJ to prioritize its activities and exploration budget on the most prospective areas. More advanced forms of exploration such as drilling may commence once the prospecting licenses are granted.
Southern Arc has looked to Japan, noting the Tertiary volcanic arc terrains of that country host five gold deposits believed to contain more than 1 million oz each. For example, the Hishikari gold mine on Kyushu Island had an estimated 7.6 million oz of gold contained in reserves when mining began in 1985 with grades averaging 40 g/t Au.
