NEWFOUNDLAND – Marathon Gold Corp. of Toronto has discovered a new, high grade gold zone at the Valentine project 55 km south of Buchans. The find was made 550 metres along strike from the Sprite zone, where trenching was done in 2014.
Three shallow holes were drilled into the exposed quartz-tourmaline-pyrite veining 600 metres along strike from previous 2014 drilling. Assays from the core returned 3.82 g/t Au over 6.3 metres, 1.76 g/t over 9.1 metres, 2.10 g/t over 2.1 metres, 2.35 g/t over 2.1 metres, and 3.74 g/t over 2.1 metres. (All lengths are true thickness.)
The new zone returned outcrop samples of 213.02 g/t, 195.13 g/t, 81.59 g/t and 28.44 g/t Au. Channel samples tested 11.65 g/t Au over 6.0 metres with 32.82 g/t over 1.0 metre, 5.78 g/t over 2.0 metres, 3.12 g/t over 3.5 metres, and 2.26 g/t over 5.6 metres.
