BRAZIL – Toronto-based IamGold Corp. continues to successfully drill enjoy success as it drills its Pitangui gold project located 110 km northwest of Belo Horizonte. The maiden resource, based on the Sao Sebastiao deposit, was 4.07 million inferred tonnes at 4.88 g/t Au or 640,000 contained oz.
These are the latest and most promising assays:
IamGold senior VP exploration Craig MacDougall said the recent drill results confirm the continuity of the Biquinho zone and intersect good thicknesses and higher grades. Below that zone, the Pimentao zone is also returning encouraging results that may allow for expansion of the resource base.
Gold mineralization at the Pitangui project is hosted by a series of parallel and complexly folded horizons of banded iron formation that are separated by mafic volcanic and minor sedimentary units within the lower greenstone belt stratigraphy. Within the iron formations, gold mineralization is associated with sulphide replacement of primary magnetite bands, characterized by the presence of pyrrhotite and lesser amounts of arsenopyrite, pyrite, and chalcopyrite, the company said in a release.
IamGold has two drills turning at Pitangui as part of the infill program. The information will also be used to extend the limits of the mineralized material.
IamGold's most recent presentation (June 17, 2014) is available at IamGold.com.
