QUEBEC WESDOME GOLD MINES of Toronto has made an "encouraging" new gold find near Val d'Or, 3 km east of its Kiena gold mine and 3 km north of AGNICO-EAGLE's Goldex gold mine. The discovery was made during a barge-mounted drilling program that tested under-explored areas below Lac deMontigny.
The discovery hole, S-507, intersected two 0.6-metres intervals grading 21.22 g/t Au and 12.61 g/t Au. Hole S-510, 1.4 km to the southeast, returned 4.45 g/t Au over 5.1 metres. Two other holes drilled 100 metres from S-510 assayed 3.91 g/t over 1.6 metres and 6.82 g/t over 7.7 metres. The gold occurs in quartz vein stockworks in albitized diorite hosted by komatiitic volcanic rocks.
"People have been mining gold here [in Val d'Or] since 1929 and it is remarkable the region continues to reveal new secrets." Wesdome's exploration chief George Mannard said in a news release. "We are currently rushing to drill more holes before the ice comes. This will help unravel the geometry and dimensions of the new find."
A location map of the new discovery is available in the news release dated Oct. 14, 2008, posted at www.Wesdome.com.
