WAWA, Ontario A new deep zone of gold mineralization has been found at the Eagle River mine belonging to RIVER GOLD MINES. The zone occurs between 350 and at least 535 metres deep and has a strike length of 75 metres or more. The highest uncut grade was 106.81 g/t Au over 5.5 metres at a depth of 535 metres; the cut grade (60 g/t) of the same section was 35.79 g/t Au.
The Eagle River mine, 100%-owned by River Gold, has been in production since 1995. In 2002 it produced 73,900 oz of gold from 281,000 tonnes of ore grading 8.2 g/t Au. The deposit is hosted in an Archean greenstone belt within the Wawa-Abitibi Terrain. Production at the mine was disrupted for three weeks because a power transmission line was damaged during a severe storm on July 20.
