YUKON – Western Copper and Gold Corp. and the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in (TH) First Nation have signed an initial co-operation agreement for the Casino gold-copper project 300 km northwest of Yellowknife. A portion of the Casino property lies within TH's traditional territory.
The project is in the advanced exploration phase with a prefeasibility study outlining an open pit mine and concentrator that will average 399,000 oz of gold, 245 million lb of copper, 15 million lb of molybdenum, and 1.8 million oz of silver annually. First production could come in 2019.
The new agreement commits the parties to work together to review, evaluate and discuss the Casino project and lays the foundation for creating future agreements related to the project. Both sides look forward to forging a mutually beneficial and respectful relationship.
