In preparation for the opening of its 55,000 tonnes per day open-pit Detour Lake operation later this year, Detour Gold Corporation has just purchased four low-speed dual-pinion drive systems for installation at two semiautogenous (SAG) and two ball mills.
These systems, manufactured by ABB Switzerland Ltd., include the largest low-speed dual-pinion mill drives in the world.
The Detour Lake project, located approximately 8 km west of the Ontario-Quebec border and about 180 km northeast of Cochran, encompasses 274 sq km and contains an open-pit reserve of 8.8 million ounces of gold.
