GEMCOM SOFTWARE INTERNATIONAL, of Vancouver, has signed a $167,000 software contract for the Sossego copper project in Brazil. Sossego is owned by Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD). Gemcom will supply its own software, Whittle-based and third-party technologies, and technical support services.
Sossego is CVRD's first copper producer, and the company has plans to launch other projects beginning in 2007. CVRD was a state-owned company when it was incorporated in 1942 but was privatized in 1997 The company has become the world's largest producer and exporter of iron ore and pellets.
