ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATION – Albian Sands achieves ISO 14001

ALBERTA - ALBIAN SANDS ENERGY became the first of Canada's oil sands operations to receive ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system (EMS). The EMS covers all operations and maintenance activities at the site including the Muskeg River mine, the bitumen extraction plant and the storage facilities.

Albian Sands has applied to expand its operation to 300,000 bbl/day from the current rate of 155,000 bbl. It is owned by SHELL CANADA (60%), WESTERN OIL SANDS (20%) and CHEVRONTEXACO (20%). CMJ published a definitive article on the Muskeg River mine in its Oct. 2003 issue.

Albian Sands selected ENVIROCHEM SERVICES (www.Envirochem.com) for the on-site service and installation of custom EMS software, in particular its Environmental Office software. Envirochem developed a computer-based, environmental training system for Albian employees.
