YUKON — Vancouver-based Capstone Mining has made a second high-grade copper-gold discovery at its Minto mine this year, bringing to six the number of such discoveries made in the past three years. The open pit mine and 3,200-t/d mill are located 240 km north of Whitehorse.
Two holes from the Minto East target are of particular interest. Hole 584 intercepted 3.5% Cu and 1.2 g/t Au over 13.6 metres, including 4.1% Cu and 1.4 g/t Au over 6.0 metres. Hole 586 returned 2.8% Cu and 1.0 g/t Au over 27.0 metres, including 3.7% Cu and 1.4 g/t over 9.0 metres.
The Minto East target was first identified during drilling in 2007. Follow-up drilling is planned for next year, and Capstone is considering a down-the-hole geophysical survey and an expanded Titan-24 survey.
