NEVADA - The Marigold mine near Winnemucca has become the first gold mine in the state to achieve certification under the International Cyanide Management Code. The voluntary code covers the safe manufacture, transport and use of cyanide in gold production. It was developed under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Program with the goal of safeguarding human health and the environment by promoting responsible management of the cyanide used in gold mining. See www.CyanideCode.org.
The Marigold mine is a joint venture of Vancouver's GOLDCORP (66.67%) and BARRICK GOLD of Toronto. Gold production for 2006 is targeted at 180,000 oz.
