IOC began developing the database in 2015, and the company implemented it in March 2017. Since then the company has been able to anticipate and prevent dangerous events caused by erosion and/or extreme weather. This has been a boon to safety. The geotechnical risk management system is an array of slope stability and rock fall detection systems each tailored according to the specific conditions along the 420-km Quebec North Shore & Labrador Railway.
