Donald R. Lindsay is the new president and CEO of Vancouver-based Teck Cominco. Formerly he was president of CIBC World Markets and was responsible for both the Investment and Banking Division as well as the bank’s Asia Pacific Region. The company also named Jalynn H. Bennett to its board of directors.
Aur Resources of Toronto has named John L. Knowles its executive VP of finance and CFO. He joins the company after having held a similar post at Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting and HudBay Minerals.
Carl Zuber has retired from the CEO position at BCMetals and has become executive chairman. Ian Smith has assumed the duties of CEO in addition to his offices of president and COO.
Brian F. Kenny is the new president of the Koniambo joint venture of Toronto-based Falconbridge and its partner Socit Minire du Sud Pacifique. He was formerly president of Bechtel Canada/ Bechtel Quebec. The Koniambo ferronickel project in New Caledonia will begin production in 2009 at the earliest.
Alan R. Hill has accepted the position of president, CEO and a director of Toronto-based Gabriel Resources. He assumed his duties when Oyvind Hushovd retired on May 10. Hushovd remains non-executive chairman of the board.
Komatsu America of Vernon Hills, Illinois, has welcomed Alex Kummant to the newly created position of executive VP and chief marketing officer. He will have broad responsibility for the mining and utility business segments as well as the marketing functions of the construction equipment business.
Karl-Axel Waplan is the new president and CEO of Vancouver-based Lundin Mining. He was formerly executive VP of operations for the company and replaces former-president Edward F. Posey, who will continue to work on some of Lundin’s Swedish projects.
At its recent annual meeting, Toronto-based Niocan appointed Hubert Marleau as chairman and CEO. He replaces Rn Dufour who has resigned. Bernard Coulombe and Alain Robin were reappointed as vice-chairman and secretary-treasurer, respectively.
Nuinsco Resources of Toronto has announced the appointment of Brian E. Robertson as president. His 30+ years of experience include VP mining for Nuinsco, manager of the Lac des Iles palladium mine, the South Deep gold mine, the Kemess copper/gold mine, Hope Brook gold mine, Sam Goosley silver mine, and the Dome gold mine. Warren Holmes, currently president and CEO, will continue as CEO and a director of Nuinsco.
Seymour Exploration of Sudbury has amended the roster of its senior management. Richard Murphy, who has been a member of the board since June 2004, becomes president and CEO. Guy Mahaffy is now CFO and has been invited to join the board. Mahaffy replaces Terry Sigmund who has left the company.
Tournigan Gold of Vancouver has promoted James Walchuck to president and COO from his previous position of VP of mining. Prior to joining the company, Walchuck was mining manager at Barrick’s Bulyanhulu gold mine. Damien Reynolds remains Tournigan’s CEO.
