Fred Kindle will become the next CEO of ABB Group. He will join ABB on Sept. 1, 2004, taking over the helm from Jurgen Dormann in January 2005. Dormann will return to the single roll of chairman at that time.
Yves Mansion and Jean-Paul Jacamon have agreed to serve as directors for Alcan Inc. Both men served on the board of Pechiney, now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alcan.
Darren Blasutti has been appointed VP, investor relations at Barrick Gold. He was previously Barrick’s director of corporate development.
The BC & Yukon Chamber of Mines presented its annual awards for outstanding achievements in the mineral exploration and mining industry. John Tognetti, president and CEO of Haywood Securities, received the Murray Pezim Award for perseverance and success in exploration financing. The H.H. “Spud” Huestis Award for excellence in prospecting and mineral exploration went to Dr. Peter E. Fox, president of Fox Geological Services. The team from Barrick Gold’s Eskay Creek mine won the E.A. Scholz Award for excellence in mine development and operation.
The Canadian Institute for Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) executive director Jean Vavrek has announced the following appointments to its national office staff: Heather Ednie is director of media & communications and editor of the CIM Bulletin; Chantal Murphy is meeting co-ordinator; and Jean Marc Demers is the director of commercial operations.

Toronto-based Globestar Mining has named Jose Antonio Ruiz as mine manager for the Cerro de Maimon development in the Dominican Republic.
After seven years at The Northern Miner, Stuart McDougall left to join GMP Securities (formerly Griffis McBurney).
Nevada Pacific Gold of Vancouver welcomes Michael J. Beley as a director of the company. Beley has over 35 years experience. He was a founder of Eldorado Gold, Bema Industries and Polaris Minerals. Beley is past-president of the British Columbia & Yukon Chamber of Mines and sits on the board of Energold Mining.
Paul Jones has succeeded George Archibald as VP exploration at Nuinsco Resources of Toronto. He worked many years with his predecessor as chief geologist for Nuinsco.
South-Malartic Exploration of Val d’Or, Que., has appointed Leon Method as president of the company. He has been a member of the South-Malartic board since 2001.
Lars-Eric Johansson has been named an advisor to Tiberon Minerals. His executive career included senior finance positions at both Falconbridge and Noranda.
Effective immediately Ari Sussman of Titanium Corp. has given up his position as senior VP to become special advisor to the CEO focusing on business and technical development.
