Dr. Jay. D. Hair has been appointed first secretary general of the International Council on Mining and Metals, a restructured global industry association on sustainable development. The ICMM is the result of the restructuring of the International Council on Metals and the Environment. Hair is an environmental scientist who has previously led the U.S. National Wildlife Federal and the Switzerland-based World Conservation Union. He is currently chairman of the Assurance Group.

Inco Ltd. has appointed Pierre Alla as president directeur general of Goro Nickel, a nickel-cobalt project in New Caledonia. Alla has had a long and distinguished career with Paris-based Suez, a multinational company that provides energy, water, communications and waste services. He has an engineering degree, and is a French Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mrite and president of the French Benevolent Society in Australia.

Mike Hardwick has been promoted to a newly created position, senior vice-president of P&H MinePro Services, with top-level responsibility for directing MinePro global operations. His role will include developing global alliances with mining customers. Scott Alexander has replaced Hardwick as vice-president and general manager of the MinePro Americas North group, which includes Canada in its territory. P&H MinePro is based in Milwaukee, Wis.

Boliden Ltd. has restructured its board, increasing the number of directors from six to eight. Three former directors have resigned and five members of the advisory committee appointed in June have been elected directors. The new director Jan Johansson of Stockholm has become president and CEO, replacing Thomas Cederborg. There will be a special shareholders meeting around November 29 to consider redomiciliation, i.e., changing the parent company of the Boliden group of companies from Boliden Ltd. to its Swedish subsidiary, Boliden AB.
