New shovels for Suncor and Syncrude

Canadian Mining Journal Staff | December 1, 2001 | 12:00 am

P&H MinePro Services Canada has won an oil sands shovel order from Suncor Energy’s mine at Fort McMurray, Alta. This order for a P&H 4100BOSS follows closely on the heels of the startup of the initial BOSS model at Syncrude Canada’s nearby oil sands mine. The “B” in the “BOSS” name stems from the powerful P&H 4100XPB shovel, many of whose advanced features it incorporates, and the “OSS” stands for “oil sands shovel”. The shovel for Suncor began shipping in mid-October, and will go to work in early 2002. The order includes a long-term life-cycle management contract to supply parts, service and other support for the machine. Suncor currently operates two P&H 4100TS oil sands models commissioned in 1998 and 2000.
