Minimizing Crusher Production Losses During Maintenance
One of the world’s major crusher manufacturers, Svedala Industri AB, is introducing a ‘cassette’ system for carrying out crusher maintenance. The unit to be worked on is simply lifted out and replaced by an identical crusher until the original unit is ready to go back into production. In addition to reducing downtime, the cassette system increases choice with regard to the selection of crusher size: using the cassette crusher system to solve maintenance problems, smaller crushers become a more viable option.
Crusher cassettes are delivered complete with all associated equipment. All that is required on site is to connect the power and, if used, the ASR system. The cassette system can be employed on all Svedala crushers; for example the Svedala Vertical Shaft Impactor (VSI), and on screens, feeders and other processing machines.
New Maintenance Services Company
Global Management Science Services has recently been launched in Toronto under the guidance of maintenance and reliability specialist Manou Hosseini, formerly of PriceWaterhouseCoopers. The new company works globally and offers proactive equipment maintenance services and training courses in several industrial sectors including mining.
Lakefield Research and Oretest Merge
Lakefield Research Ltd. and Oretest Pty. Ltd. are pleased to announce plans to merge, subject to final approvals.
An independent, privately-owned company, Lakefield Research is recognized world-wide as a premier testing and consulting organization, confirming extraction and processing techniques through bench and pilot plant programs. Oretest Pty. Ltd. is one of Australia’s most advanced metallurgical testing and research facilities. It will operate as Lakefield Oretest, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lakefield Research. The addition of Oretest to the Lakefield group of companies creates a truly global testing, research, development and consulting organization, with facilities in Canada, Chile, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, South Africa and now Australia.
The hydrometallurgical experience, facilities and expertise resulting from this merger will be unmatched in the world. Continuous pressure leaching piloting capabilities (including solvent extraction and electrowinning) will be available in Canada and Australia.
Larox SensoMate – Early Detection Sleeve
Larox valves are typically used in applications where extreme abrasion and scaling are present. Larox Flowsys has released an early detection sleeve, which will signal locally or at the PLC when the sleeve is beginning to wear. The sleeve change can be scheduled and the worn sleeve replaced before any process downtime is experienced.
The Larox SensoMate sleeve has a steel mesh vulcanized between the wear layer and the reinforcement cords of the sleeve. Deterioration of the inner-wear layer of the sleeve allows the fluid to contact the wire mesh, which creates a change in conductivity between the pipeline and the wire mesh. This change in conductivity will be detected through the MK 9151 control relay and is indicated locally or communicated to the PLC. This wire mesh enables the conductivity through a network of connections, and is extremely reliable in high cycling applications.
The valve can also be equipped with a liquid detection plug, which is installed in the bottom of the valve. The liquid detection plug is a simple liquid level sensor, which can also be connected to the MK 9151 control relay to indicate accidental total failure of the sleeve.
