Hydraulic excavator gets more power
Caterpillar’s new 390D L hydraulic excavator incorporates a refined designed that provides greater hydraulic power, stronger structural components, added safety and convenience features, plus improved serviceability.
Powering the 390D L is an 18.1 L Cat C18 ACERT diesel engine Tier III compliant and rated at 523 hp. The machine also features advanced electronic control, precise fuel delivery and refined air management for improved performance.
The torque characteristics of the engine allow for full power at maximum rpm, resulting in better hydraulic-pump operation and positive hydraulic response. Main relief pressure in the implement circuits has been increased to 5080 psi.
This increase in pressure, combined with larger-diameter hydraulic cylinders has resulted in a 9% boost in digging-arm and bucket breakout forces for the general-purpose and reach front-end configurations, and a 7% increase for the mass excavation configurations.
