Autonomous machine system
Caterpillar and its WesTrac dealer have just announced an agreement with Fortescue Metals Group of Perth, Australia, to implement an autonomous mining solution for its 793F haul trucks at the Solomon iron ore mine. At full operational capacity, it is anticipated the mine will have approximately 45 autonomous trucks in operation by 2015. Caterpillar introduced autonomous equipment operation in the mid 1990s and in 2008, the company expanded the technology to include autonomous drilling, autonomous dozers and underground mining equipment working with other manner equipment.
