A short but sweet history

1983 – Oil & gas company Barrick Resources formed by Consolidated Summit Mines acquiring PetroInc Resources and Barrick Petroleum; amalgamated with Cullaton Lake Gold Mines and Sungate Resources, which owned Renabie (Ont.) and Valdez Creek (Alaska) gold mines

1984 – amalgamated with Bob-Clare Investments and Camflo Mines, which owned Camflo mine (Que.) and McDermott property (Ont.)

1985 – entered into first forward sales contracts, for 20% of gold production from Camflo mine; acquired Getty Gold Mines, which owned the Mercur mine (Utah) and an interest in the Pinson mine (Nevada); name changed to American Barrick Resources Corporation

1987 – acquired Goldstrike property (Nevada)

1988 – commercial production began at Holt-McDermott mine

1990 – sold interest in Valdez Creek mine to Cambior

1991 – closed Renabie mine

1993 – closed Camflo mine

1994 – acquired Lac Minerals including Bousquet and nearby Doyon mines (Que.), Golden Patricia and Macassa mines (Ont.), Bullfrog mine (Nevada), El Indio and Tambo mines and Pascua project (Chile), and interest in Veladero joint venture property (Argentina)

1995 – name changed to Barrick Gold Corporation; Macassa mine sold to Kinross Gold

1996 – acquired Arequipa Resources including Pierina project (Peru); began production at Meikle mine (on the Goldstrike property)

1997 – purchased Lama property (Argentina) adjacent to Pascua property; closed Golden Patricia mine; closed Mercur mine

1998 – sold interest in Doyon mine to Cambior; production began at Pierina mine

1999 – closed Pinson mine; acquired Sutton Resources including Bulyanhulu project (Tanzania); closed Bullfrog mine

2000 – purchased Pangea Goldfields including Tulawaka property (Tanzania); closed Tambo mine

April 2001 – Bulyanhulu mine begins production
