KSB GIW will introduce its GIW SLYsight slurry pump wear monitoring technology at MINExpo in Las Vegas from Sept. 24-26, 2024. The company, known for its heavy-duty centrifugal slurry pumps, aims to show how this technology can improve maintenance schedules and extend pump wear life by providing real-time data.
GIW SLYsight continuously monitors wear through sensors attached to critical pump parts. These sensors measure the rate of material loss, particularly in the nose gap between the suction liner and the impeller and provide ongoing data reports.
KSB GIW IoT automation product development manager Aaron Cutright explained: "Most of the time when a pump is wearing out, the customer finds out because they replace a part based on a maintenance cycle or because of a destructive failure. With GIW SLYsight technology, we attach sensors to continuously monitor the thickness of wear parts in different locations and the data from those sensors allows our software to visualize the part’s exact wear pattern over time."
The real-time data from GIW SLYsight helps operators make timely adjustments, ensuring parts are replaced only when necessary and preventing unexpected breakdowns. The technology has already shown results in field trials, with customers extending maintenance cycles based on the data and improving efficiency through better-timed nose gap adjustments.
“In the field trials we’ve conducted so far, customers have been able to see exactly how their pump parts are wearing out. At some sites, they have used this data to extend maintenance cycles. Data from SLYsight also tells operators when to do nose gap adjustments, which can lead to significant efficiency improvements and increased wear life for the pump,” said Cutright.
KSB GIW's deployment of this technology is expected to set a new standard in slurry pump maintenance, emphasizing efficiency and reliability.
