YUKON – Dr. Guillaume Neilsen has been awarded the NSERC Industrial Research Chair for Colleges in Northern Mine Remediation. He is a member of the faculty of Yukon College with headquarters in Whitehorse and several other campuses. .
The appointment comes with a $900,000 stipend over a five-year term.
Nielsen is eager to continue his research in mine remediation. He has partnerships with six active Yukon mines, collectively known as the Yukon Mining Research Consortium. He is studying three major research trends – passive water treatment, mine waste management and mine revegetation – and he collaborates closely with the local First Nations.
