The material was recovered from four drill holes completed in 2012 and 2017 in the southeast part of the Baptiste nickel-iron deposit where it might be possible to mine shallow, higher grade material in the early years of operation. The deposit is part of the company’s Decar nickel-iron project 80 km north of Fort St. James. FPX hopes the new tests will improve upon those done for the 2013 preliminary economic assessment. The company expects that there will be increases in estimated nickel recovery and final concentrate quality, using conventional processing technologies. The tests are being conducted at ALS Metallurgy in Kamloops, B.C. The metallurgical study will consist of two phases of testing.  Phase 1 includes detailed chemical analysis and mineralogical evaluation of the composite sample to quantify nickel mineral occurrence data.  Detailed magnetic separation tests to split awaruite and magnetite work is planned. Phase two will involve evaluative tests to investigate the separation of awaruite from magnetite using magnetic concentrates produced in phase one.  This phase will produce a final nickel concentrate. FPX is expecting the results from the met study in Q1 2019, and they will be incorporated in an updated mine plan.
