QUEBEC –
Arianne Phosphate of Saguenay, Que., and the New Brunswick government to study the possibility of building a phosphoric acid plant in Belledune, N.B. Through the Opportunities New Brunswick program, the province will contribute to the cost of a pre-feasibility study of such a facility.
Arianne has chosen Belledune because most of the needed infrastructure already exists, a port with available capacity, access to a skilled labour force, and access to supplies – other than the rock mined by the company – to operate the plant.
The company has already been working with various groups, many of which are in New Brunswick, that will be involved in the study. The study itself will take perhaps five months to prepare.
Arianne is producing apatite from the Lac a Paul phosphate mine and concentrator in Quebec. The mining rate is 55,000 t/d for an annual production of 3 million tonnes of concentrate.
