(Image: Chalice Gold Mines)[/caption] QUEBEC – Australian explorer Chalice Gold Mines has taken a liking to the gold potential of this province. The company recently reported two “highly encouraging” gold discoveries on its East Cadillac project 35 km east of Val d’Or. The first find was a wide mineralized zone that includes two high grade zones at the North Contact target. Only four holes have been drilled in the contact, but they returned 23.5 metres at 1.12 g/t gold, 2.0 metres at 6.86 g/t, 1.0 metre at 5.71 g/t, and 6.5 metres at 1.77 g/t. The zone has a strike of more than 1,000 metres and is open in all directions. The second discovery was made at the Lac Rapides target where another wide mineralized zone was intersected. The best of the two holes here returned 20.8 metres at 0.74 g/t gold, including 3.1 metres at 4.27 g/t. It remains open along strike and down dip. Chalice recently completed a 30,000-metre drill program in northern Quebec. Drilling has confirmed the Simon West zone has a strike of 3.5 km as well as discovering the two new zones. The entire East Cadillac land holding strikes 27 km along the Larder Lake-Cadillac fault. Chalice is also testing the Kinebik gold property that strikes 30 km along the Casa Berardi fault.
