GOLD: Barkerville, First Nations reach accord

(Credit: Barkerville Gold Mines)[/caption] BRITISH COLUMBIA – Toronto-based Barkerville Gold Mines and the Xatśūll First Nation (Soda Creek Indian Band) have reached an interim agreement that spells out the commitment of both parties to maintaining an ongoing relationship with respect to the company’s activities at the Cariboo gold project, located on Xatśūll land. The agreement establishes a framework under which Barkerville and Xatśūll can benefit from training, ongoing communication on stewardship and opportunities for businesses to participate in the exploration activities and project operation. The two parties have further agreed to begin negotiations on a longer term and more comprehensive relationship agreement. Under terms of an agreement made late last year with the Lhtako Dene First Nation, Barkerville has issued 400,000 common shares of the company to the First Nation. The gift of shares is part of a mutually beneficial relationship between the two. Barkerville is exploring for gold at Barkerville Mountain, Cow Mountain, and Island Mountain.
