POTASH: First production at Bethune mine

SASKATCHEWAN – K+S Potash Canada has produced the first tonnes of potash at Canada’s newest potash mine –  Bethune (formerly known as the Legacy project) near the town of the same name. Potash shipments to the new harbour terminal in Vancouver should begin in August. From there it will be shipped to customers around the world. Credit: K+S Aktiengesellschaft.[/caption] K+S will produced between 600,000 and 700,000 tonnes of potash this year at Bethune. Commercial production at a rate of 2.0 million t/y should be reached  by the end of this year. "This is a great day for our company," says Dr. Burkhard Lohr, chairman of K+S Aktiengesellschaft. "With Bethune, the most modern potash facility in the world, we are pushing into a new dimension. We are now producing potash on two continents," Lohr concluded.
