BERLIN – A 100-kg gold coin struck by the
Royal Canadian Mint has gone missing from the Bode Museum in this German city. The coin carries a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on one side and maple leaves on the other. It is 53 cm in diameter, 3 cm thick, and is five-nines pure. The “Big Maple Leaf” has a face value of $1 million, but is probably worth more than US$400,000, based on today’s gold price of US$1,250 per oz.

Poor calculating skills!
At today price of $1,250.00 per ounce, the 100 kg weighs 3,215 ounces and should be valued at $4,018,844
