SASKATCHEWAN –
K+S Potash Canada says the first 177 of 531 custom built rail cars have arrived at the Legacy potash mine site near Bethune. The company now has enough rail cars on hand to complete one of the three trains that will transport potash to the handling and storage facility in Port Moody, B.C.
The rail cars can be loaded while in motion. They are slightly shorter than regular rail cars and will hold the same volume. Both features maximize productivity and efficiency.
The product will leave the mine site and travel 14 km on newly constructed rail line owned by operated by K+S. It will then travel over 30 km of rails recently completed by Canadian Pacific between the K+S line and CP’s main line at Belle Plaine, Sask.
Commissioning of the Legacy processing facility began in December 2016. K+S said additional rail cars will be purchased as production ramps up later in the year. Part of the fleet will also be used to transport potash to the United States.
