NEWFOUNDLAND – Toronto-based Marathon Gold Corp. is having spectacular success drilling the Marathon gold deposit at its Valentine Lake project 55 km south of Buchans. Results included 25.44 g/t Au (uncut) over 15.0 metres including 310.35 g/t Au (9 oz/ton) over 1.0 metre near surface. [caption id="attachment_1003716737" align="alignleft" width="300"] Southwest dipping extension or a quartz-tourmaline-pyrite-gold vein with tourmaline “bleeding” along shear fracturing into host quartz-porphyry.[/caption] This is only the second highest assay returned from drilling at Valentine Lake. The best was 1,183.62 g/t in 2014. Several more strong intercepts were made 200 metres or more below surface. They include:
  • 03 g/t Au over 18.0 metres with 7.03 g/t over 3.0 metres and 6.87 g/t over 4.0 metres;
  • 64 g/t Au over 40.0 metres with 13.12 g/t over 5.0 metres, 8.81 g/t over 1.0 metre, and 9.67 g/t over 4.0 metres;
  • 84 g/t Au over 20.0 metres with 4.47 g/t over 4.0 metres and 4.44 g/t over 1.0 metre;
  • 84 g/t Au over 31.0 metres with 7.45 g/t over 2.0 metres, 4.26 g/t over 22.0 metres and 11.892 g/t over 4.0 metres; and
  • 40 g/t Au over 5.0 metres with 11.43 g/t over 1.0 metre.
Marathon says these new deep, high grade gold intercepts occur between 70 to 120 meters down-dip from previous drilling and demonstrate the continuity and strength of the mineralization corridor of the Marathon deposit. As outlined to date, the deeper higher grade mineralized zone has a strike length in excess of 400 metres. Detailed results can be found in the Jan. 16, 2017, news release posted at  www.Marathon-Gold.com.
