Monarques Gold Corp. of Montreal is still working on a 10,000-metre drill program at its Croinor gold deposit 70 km east of Val d’Or, but the company is already enjoying high grade assays.
Hole CR-16-505 returned 2.3 metres intersection grading 23.27 g/t Au including 58.6 g/t over 0.9 metre, the highest grade yet for the current program. The mineralized zone consists of 50% tourmaline quartz veins associated with 3% coarse pyrite and grains of visible gold, said the company.
This hole tested the extension of a mineralized zone, and pushed it out 50 metres at a depth of 300 metres. Further, the hole was located at the south contact of the Croinor diorite, which is unusual for the Croinor deposit where the best grades are usually associated with the north contact, said Monarques.
"To date, the Croinor gold-bearing system remains open at depth and shows a certain rhythmicity in the occurrence of mineralized shoots at depth and along the Croinor diorite, which remains relatively untested outside the Croinor gold deposit," said Monarques president Jean-Marc Lacoste in a release.
