NICKEL: SNC-Lavalin wins contract for SO2 mitigation project from Norilsk

RUSSIA – SNC-Lavalin of Montreal has been awarded a contract by Norilsk Nickel to implement a sulphur recovery project at the Nadezhda smelter, located at the company's Polar Division in the Krasnoyarsk region. The project is one of the largest sulphur dioxide mitigation projects in the world. SNC-Lavalin will prepare detailed engineering and process drawings, and will execute the project through its offices in Toronto and Moscow, as well as a site presence in Norilsk Nickel. The target of the project is to reduce SO₂ emissions by capturing emitted sulphur dioxide, a gas that contributes to the formation of acid rain.
