Noront believes the Butler property is part of a district-wide exploration opportunity for VMS deposits. Previous work at Butler tested the zinc-copper potential along a 12-km trend of felsic volcanic rocks. The Sanderson claims cover a large ferro-gabbro intrusion (the Big Mac) and possible footwall ultramafic intrusion of a similar scales to the Black Thor intrusion. It could yield nickel-copper-chromite targets.
Potential nickel-copper-platinum-palladium occurrences along strike for the Eagle’s Nest deposit are a priority for Noront this summer. The company has already begun drilling a geophysical anomaly at a depth of 750 metres that may represent a sulphide conductor. Noront has also begun drilling some of the 13 zinc-copper occurrences on its claims. Both the Butler and McFaulds properties will be targeted.
At the request of the Webequie community and before drilling began, a ceremony was conducted by an elder and a drum group to ensure minimal disturbance to the land and water and for the health and safety of the workers. The company says this event is an example working with local communities and respecting their traditional values.
