CHILE – RB Energy of Vancouver is considering the sale of its Aguas Blancas iodine mine 95 SE of Antofagasta. Officially, the company believes the market is "not attributing appropriate value" to the project. A formal process to maximize the value of the asset will be undertaken, but selling is a possibility.
If RB Energy sells Aguas Blancas, the company will become a pure lithium play with the only hardrock lithium operation in North America.
The company recently proposed a financing of $78 million to $88 million with which to get its lithium carbonate plant in Quebec up to design capacity of 20,000 t/y. The company has hired SGS Minerals to mobilize a team of hydrometallurgical engineers to the site to assist in meeting the planned production rate in Q1 2015.
