QUEBEC – RB Energy of Vancouver has made the first shipment of commercial grade lithium carbonate from its Quebec Lithium mine 38 km southeast of Amos. A container of 98.8% Li2CO3 was sent on its way to Tewoo ERDC in China. Shipments will be made weekly, and commercial production levels will be achieved by late 2014.
Minor modifications to the Quebec Lithium plant are underway to increase production of electric vehicle battery grade material (>99.9%) by the end of the year. The company says it will then have the flexibility to produce different quality products depending on customer requirements and best pricing.
RB Energy also owns the Aguas Blancas iodine mine in northern Chile. Cash flow requirements for Quebec Lithium are being satisfied by the forward sale of iodine from the Chilean mine, said the company.
